Parler will not go down without a fight. The alternative social media app, favorite among President Donald Trump faithful’s, has lodged legal proceedings against Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN). The lawsuit stems from Amazon Web Services suspended hosting the Parler website.
Parler vs. Amazon
In the lawsuit, Parler alleges that Amazon's actions amount to antitrust violation as well as a breach of contract and interference of the company’s business relationship. Parler also argues that Amazon's actions were unlawful as they sought to eliminate a key player in the market. Parler has asked the Federal court to impose a temporary restraining order against Amazon.
Parler has already hit back, reiterating the lawsuit has no merit. The company’s spokesperson insists there is sufficient evidence that the social networking app has been used to encourage and incite violence against others, which goes against Amazon's policy.
Amazon has reportedly made its concerns known a couple of times before deciding to end ties with Parler. It has since emerged that the tech giant has reported more than 98 examples of posts in the app that have been used to incite and encourage violence.
Parler Woes
The suspension remains in place and now threatens to thwart Parlor’s ambitions of becoming the alternative social network for conservatives. In its lawsuit, the social networking app has already reiterated that without AWS, it is finished as it does not have a way to get online, thus the reason it is pushing for the restraining order.
The lawsuit also comes on the heels of Amazon and Apple delisting the app from their app stores. The moves come on the app violating terms of service on allowing inciting posts to thrive to the extent of fueling the insurrection experienced at Capitol hill last week.
Parler joins a number of high profile personalities that have felt the full brunt of tech giants cracking the weep on platforms and people that continue to incite violence. President Donald Trump is the highest culprit on being banned from Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
