Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) and GameStop Corp. (NYSE:GME) have inked a strategic partnership as the two look to leverage each other technology and solutions to enhance their core business. The video game retail giant utilizes the software giant's s cloud solution to create an ultimate gaming destination. On its part, Microsoft is to leverage GameStop retail stores to offer an expanded variety of its gaming products, including Xbox All Access.
Microsoft-GameStop Partnership
The multi-year strategic partnership will advance GameStop physical and digital game offerings as well as its retail technology infrastructure. The company comes into the deal with over 5,000 retail stores and backed by a world-class e-commerce platform.
The partnership will allow GameStop to standardize its business operations on Microsoft cloud solutions and hardware products. Conversely, it should be able to deliver new rich digital experiences to customers as it works on becoming the ultimate gaming destination.
Under the terms of the strategic partnership, GameStop is to standardize its back end and in-store solutions in Microsoft portfolio of cloud business applications. In return, it should be able to gain access to Omni-channel insights touching on customer preferences and purchasing history.
Microsoft Cloud Benefits
GameStop associates are equipped with Microsoft Surface devices to transform in-store experience and help unlock new retail experiences. Associates should be able to move freely in stores while meeting customer needs faster and more efficiently. GameStop has already confirmed plans to roll out Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Teams in its stores in a bid to empower more than 30,000 associates for enhanced productivity.
Microsoft expects GameStop to modernize its technology infrastructure and support store associates on harnessing the power of Dynamics 365 and Microsoft 365. The partnership should also provide the video game retail giant access to advanced retail management technologies with the potential of driving operational efficiencies through the Omni-channel platform.
GameStop shares rallied by more than 30% on the inking of the strategic partnership. The strategic partnership also comes ahead of the official launch of Xbox Series X AND Series set to debut in 36 countries on November 10.
