Just days after confirming it will no longer offer web hosting services to social networking app Parler, Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) has once again cracked the whip. QAnon is the latest to fall victim to the tech giant’s ongoing crackdowns on platforms and products at the heart of fuelling incitement in the U.S. The e-commerce giant has confirmed it wills no longer support the sale of offer QAnon products on its online marketplace.
QAnon Products
The online retailer maintains that some of the QAnon products go against its policies as they are used to fuel conspiracy theories and inciting people. The retailer has come under immense pressure for enabling the sale of QAnon insignia, whose followers were at the center of last week’s insurrection at Capitol Hill.
Amazon had initially removed some QAnon materials promoting extremists views. Some of the materials removed included books that claimed the holocaust never happened and that it is a conspiracy theory propagated by the left-wing.
QAnon followers have been pushing a number of conspiracy theories, most of which have gone to fuel great division within American society. For instance, the backers have been alleging that President Donald Trump is being fought for fighting a cabal of child sex predators, most of whom are alleged to be democrats and Hollywood faithful’s
Tech Giant’s Crackdown
Amazon has joined other tech giants in cracking the whip against platforms and forums, fuelling hatred among people. It has already ended support for alternative social media Parler, a firm favorite with Trump supporters.
The tech giant says it will no longer host the website on its cloud computing service Amazon Web Services. The move has since been followed, with Apple and Google delisting the app siting terms of use infringement on continuing to fuel division among Americans.
Amazon has already found itself in trouble, with most conservatives arguing it is clamping down on freedom of speech and expression. Parler has also sued the tech giant over antitrust violation and for allegedly getting it out of business.
