Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) has moved to enhance the security of people working from home over the internet. The tech giant has unveiled a new security model designed around zero trust that guarantees data and privacy security for the ever-growing remote workforce.
In the aftermath of the pandemic, a good number of people were pushed into working from home as part of social distancing policies. Likewise, cloud computing uptake has increased, prompting Google to ensure secure access while working remotely.
With the new security protocol, no user joining a network will be trusted by default, whether they join internally or externally. The new system will help compliment BeyondCorp Remote Access, a cloud based security product that the tech giant unleashed early in the year. BeyondCorp Remote Access essentially replaces a VPN by automating authentication and placing of certificates on devices, which are, in return, used to match them in a secure database.
According to the director of product management at Google Cloud, Sampath Srinivas, more work needs to be done on zero trusts to make it more effective. For starters, there are plans to democratize the technology and ease its adoption, conversely help organizations stay secure, agile, and productive.
Google has already created an alliance of partners to offer a suite of products that work together. For instance, people in the Citrix Workspace will be able to use BeyondCorp access and policy enforcement. Likewise, people will be able to access various applications without a VPN.
BeyondCorp is to leverage Crowd strike’s endpoint detection system to help reduce external intrusion. The company’s Tanium endpoint is to monitor endpoint devices in real-time to make sure connected devices are secure.
Enhancing security is vital at a time when people and companies are embracing the working from home prospects in the aftermath of the pandemic. Hackers are increasingly looking for loopholes to use in exploiting the remote working platforms conversely pose a significant danger to people’s data and privacy.
